Biosketch

Dr. Yifang Ban is the Professor of Geoinformatics and the Director of the Geoinformatics Division at the Department of Urban Planning and Environment at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 1996, and a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Nanjing University in China in 1984 and 1987 respectively. Dr. Ban earned a Certificate with Honours at the International Space University Summer Session held in Barcelona in 1994. She received various scholarships and awards in China and Canada.

Before joining KTH in 2004, Dr. Ban was a tenured Professor at York University in Toronto, Canada. She was an Assistant Professor at Stockholm University during 1998-2000 and a Senior Research Engineer at KTH during 1996-1997. Dr. Ban was a GIS Analyst at PDM Information Technology Inc. (1991-92) and a Remote Sensing Consultant at Watts, Griffis and Mcquat Ltd. (1995-96) in Toronto. Before moved to Toronto in May, 1990, she was a Research Associate at Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.
