Research Projects

ENSLIC – Energy saving through promotion of Life Cycle Assessment in buildings – 2007-2009. The project aims towards reduced energy use in buildings by supporting the implementation of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in early design stages of new and/or refurbished buildings. The project includes partners in nine European countries as well as five Swedish partners from the building sector and a municipality. Sweden is responsible for the development of guidelines for using LCA in early design stages.

Miljöklassning av byggnader (Environmental rating of buildings) – 2005-2007. This project aimed at developing a simplified tool for environmental rating of buildings to be widely spread on the Swedish market as a way to encourage environmental improvements of new and existing buildings. The project involved researchers from KTH-fms and Building Services Engineering, Chalmers University Building Services Engineering and consultants as well as stakeholder participation of 27 sector companies and authorities. The tool covering the areas energy, indoor environment and chemicals was proposed in the beginning of 2008 and have been tested on a number of buildings since then. Bygga Bo-dialogen is responsible for the further implementation. The project was financed by Formas BIC, The Swedish Energy Agency and sector companies. For reports, see www.byggabodialogen.se

EcoEffect – 2001-2003. The project aimed at developing a very comprehensive and life cycle based tool for environmental assessment of buildings. The tool can be used in early design stages, later design stages and the operation stage of buildings and includes the areas energy use, material use, indoor environment, outdoor environment and life cycle costs. A special weighting method was developed in the project. The project was financed by Formas and sector companies. For reports, see www.ecoeffect.se

Miljöstyrning med miljöindikatorer i fastighetsförvaltning (Environmental management through indicators in property management). 2004. The project aimed at exploring more environmentally relevant indicators to be used in property management and for stimulating environmental improvements of the existing building stand. The project was financed by Formas and Lundbergs Stipendiestiftelse.
