My name is Wang Daohan. I come from the Canton Province of China and have gained my architectural competence at Tsinghua University during the past five years. My career goal is to become a professional in architectural and urban design to shape the built environment more comfortable for people. Thanks to STINT´s kind offer, I could choose to study the Urban planning and design Programme at KTH, which enables me to enhance my urban planning competence. It is also a very precious chance and experience for me to travel and learn from the excellent cities of Sweden and Europe, which have a characteristic city image, historical architecture, rich cultures and friendly people. Moreover, I enjoy studying and living in Stockholm very much. In two years, I hope I will become an architect and urban planner with abundant professional skills and theoretical knowledge.

interested in the challenges of our future cities in theory and practice - a
(multiisciplinary) program in-between the areas of urbanism, architecture
and urban planning.During the program you learn to handle the tools and steps

Helen Runting, Australia - Urban Planning and Design, Top Student in Her Class
Helen Runting is a master's student in Urban Planning and Design. She is Australian and used to study at the University of Melbourne.
KTH is one of the few universities in Europe which offers an international masters program in my area (urban design) and Stockholm has a strong reputation internationally within the design fields.
What is your impression of KTH so far?
The university is well-resourced and well-situated and I've had great support from our faculty and teachers, who take a genuine interest in the course and in our studies.
Did you experience any "culture shock" when you first arrived?
Very little actually. I think there are a number of myths perpetuated about Sweden and swedes (often by swedes themselves!) which are completely untrue. In my experience, swedes are open, friendly and easy to get to know. My only "cultural" problems related to learning Swedish - which is a nightmare if you're a native english speaker, as you never get the chance to practice.
Do you have any advice for students who would like to study at KTH/in Stockholm?
Stockholm is an amazing city - it's physically beautiful and there is a lot going on here in terms of art, culture and social life. Try to actively engage with the culture here! KTH is a large and well-resourced university with a lot of individual support for students within international programs.
What does the experience mean to you?
I think Stockholm will remain a strong part of my personal and professional life - my experience has really clarified what I want to do in the future. I would love to work in Sweden after completing my Masters here. The urban design field is a relatively new one in this country, which presents the opportunity to be part of something fresh and exciting.
Currently we have 22 UPD students in our First 2007/2008 UPD Year and 25/30 Students in 2008/2009 Group. Due to the privacy law in Sweden, we are not at liberty to disclose their names, pictures or email addresses. In the Year 2008/2009 we have currently 40 students (10 extra places have been awarded just or this year!). In year 2009/2010 the Program will be accepting 35 students globalwide.
